When product labels say "BPA-Free," it doesn't mean they're safe. Our laws allow what's called "regrettable substitution," where a bad chemical is replaced with something that may be as or even more dangerous. In the case of BPA, it's a close cousin of BPA called BPS.
This problem isn't limited to just BPA. Even if you try to avoid all the chemicals you know are bad for you, you're likely still to be exposed to carcinogens, neurotoxins, and other chemical hazards. That's because our current chemical safety law is 40 years old and woefully ineffective.
But Senator Whitehouse, as a member of the Environment & Public Works Committee, has a unique opportunity to change this. Ask him to stand up as a chemical safety champion.
We need stronger toxic substances controls
