Protect California from Climate Risks of Methane Leaks

Methane Potency

As California's natural gas pipelines age, depending in part on history of maintenance and materials, they become more prone to leaks, posing a significant climate risk.

The main component of natural gas—methane—is a potent greenhouse gas that is contributing to climate change. With California's goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 80% below 1990 levels by 2050, this problem must be addressed.

Support the President of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and his advisors in their efforts to require utilities to use best practice to find and repair natural gas leaks in their systems.
