The North Carolina state legislature has advanced an attack on a 44-year-old environmental law—the state Environmental Policy Act (SEPA), which guarantees that when your tax dollars are being spent on a major project, all environmental impacts are evaluated and less-damaging alternatives are considered.
HB 795—which has passed the North Carolina House and Senate—guts this critical law. The bill exempts most publicly funded projects from environmental review, even if tens of millions in tax dollars are being spent. Plainly stated, it puts our lands, waters, and wildlife at risk. Now, the bill goes back to the State House for them to concur the Senate's even more extreme version. This is our last chance to save this critical environmental law from attack.
Take action today: Tell the North Carolina House NOT to approve the Senate's changes.
Please do not concur on HB 795
