Take action: North Carolina's Drinking Water At Risk North Carolina’s state legislature is taking aim at environmental protections yet again—and this time, they’re putting North Carolina’s water quality at risk. Not only will this proposal endanger fish and wildlife, but removing sensible water quality protections threatens the health of our families and children. The problem lies deep in the state budget proposal that lawmakers are currently deliberating. The NC Senate approved several provisions which would block and eventually repeal policies to reduce water pollution in Jordan Lake, Falls Lake, the Randleman Reservoir, the Catawba River, and the Neuse and Tar-Pamlico river basins. The final bill language could be decided any day. Tell your State Representative and the Speaker of the NC House to protect our rivers and streams and make sure our waters are safe before it’s too late. Message Please remove section 14.13 from HB 1030 Appropriations Act Dear [Decision Maker], * Personalize your message North Carolina's rivers, lakes, and estuaries are a critical resource for our communities. Jordan and Falls reservoirs alone are water sources for over 700,000 North Carolinians. It is critical that we protect our drinking water, and continue North Carolina's critical nutrient pollution prevention programs. But harmful provisions added to the Senate's version of the budget, H1030, would eliminate effective, proven, and scientifically robust techniques for controlling water pollution and protecting our water resources. We can't grow our economy with polluted waterways. Protect our precious water supplies. Please make sure these harmful policy changes are NOT part of the final budget bill.
