Wildfires are Threatening Public Health. Trump’s EPA Budget makes it worse.

Over the past few months record-setting heat has fueled massive wildfires that have burned millions of acres of the Western United States, putting 2017 on track to be one of the worst years for wildfires in the U.S. on record.

But the aftermath is just as devastating. The smoke from the fires carries potentially dangerous health risks as people inhale tiny smoke particles, the air quality becomes poor and pollution and smog increase in cities.

This is more than just a natural disaster. This is a public health issue.

And President Trump’s proposed 2018 budget for the Environmental Protection Agency makes matters worse. EPA grants cover almost 30% of state and local air quality monitoring, and almost a third of those EPA grants would disappear under the Trump budget.

Take action today, and tell Congress to reject Trump’s EPA Budget. In a time of continuous natural disasters, our elected officials need to do everything they can to protect our health in the wake of natural disasters.
