McSally must protect the people of Arizona from dirty water, toxic air, and climate change Dear Editor of Tucson.com, A recent article explains how the Trump Administration has gutted federal funding for the Environmental Protection Agency -- clearly ignoring the warnings of climate scientists across the world about the life-threatening and costly effects of climate change. For the second year in a row, President Trump released a budget that dramatically cuts EPA funding and is a blueprint for a less healthy, more polluted America. His proposal takes aim at Americans' right to drink clean water, breathe clean air, and ensure a safe future for our families in the face of the climate crisis. However, there is a new crucial opportunity for our elected leaders -- including Representative Martha McSally -- to protect American families. Congress recently voted to provide more money for domestic spending. That money simply must be used to reverse the chronic underfunding of the Environmental Protection Agency -- whose budget is now 55% lower than it was four decades ago, even as its workload has grown significantly. In 2018, that is nowhere near what's needed to protect American families and communitiesIncreasing EPA's budget by 10% over the next two years will help it address backlogs from EPA's historically low budget levels and restore capacity to address toxic safety, climate change, air pollution, and water pollution. Rep. McSally: the people of Arizona deserve to know that the water we drink and the air we breathe isn't making us sick. Give EPA the resources it needs to do its job.
