URGENT: North Carolina's natural heritage is being put at risk

North Carolina’s natural heritage in woven deep into the fabric of our great state. From the mountains to the coast, North Carolina — the land of the longleaf pine is known far and wide for the remarkable natural treasures that help define the culture of our state.

But state legislators reconvening in Raleigh for a “lame duck” session are putting that at risk. Buried deep in a controversial election law bill — House Bill 1117 — is language that proposes to eliminate the governing boards that administer critical land and water conservation funding programs. A separate proposal in the state Senate — Senate Bill 821 — aims to do the same.
