Help protect 45,000 acres of Louisiana’s wetlands

Fill out the form and tell the RESTORE Council to provide funds to the River Reintroduction to Maurepas Swamp project. Your message will help protect over 45,000 acres of iconic swamp habitat in Louisiana!

The Maurepas swamp is one of the largest forested wetlands in the nation, but it is in a state of rapid decline. We have an opportunity now to secure $130 million of Deepwater Horizon funds to help restore and protect this critical coastal ecosystem and we need your voice.

The RESTORE Council has recently opened the public comment period for a large-scale restoration project that will defend the habitat of birds and other wildlife species and increase storm surge protection for the river parishes.

The River Reintroduction Project into Maurepas Swamp will improve the health and resilience of this beautiful swamp through the reintroduction of fresh water, nutrients and sediment.

Act Now! Help protect 45,000 acres of Louisiana's wetlands

Dear [Decision Maker],

I encourage the RESTORE Council to provide construction funds to the River Reintroduction to Maurepas Swamp project. This project would be an outstanding example of RESTORE dollars going toward a landscape-scale initiative that can succeed in the face of rising seas and is consistent with the Council's stated goals.

The River Reintroduction into Maurepas Swamp project will restore 45,000 acres of wetlands and swamps around Lake Maurepas between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana. As a vibrant wildlife habitat and a vital line of defense against storm surge, the Maurepas Swamp is significant to people and wildlife in Louisiana and beyond.

This project is designed to complement the Army Corps of Engineers' West Shore Lake Pontchartrain Levee Project (WSLP). I urge you to provide these funds as quickly as possible, which will offer the state of Louisiana opportunities to save both time and money through consolidated final designs of the projects.
Please help protect and restore this vital ecosystem by funding the River Reintroduction into Maurepas Swamp.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

Best regards,
